About Turkmen Carpet & Dr. Ogul

I was born in a village on the Taurus Mountains where most families were weaving rugs to help the ends meet. At childhood, which seemed part of my life, later became an ambition; learning more about rugs and bringing to collect them. To me weaving is an anonymous form of art and weavers are artists whose names are never mentioned or remembered. The weavers reflect their feelings, joy, love, happiness and even their sorrow into their work in a poetic way.
In order to promote this art of my countrymen, I have started a carpet-weaving center and was awarded the license of a weaving course by the Ministry of Education in Turkey. At this center we are teaching the girls of the district to obtain natural dyes and apply them to yarn; to research and draw old and traditional and contemporary designs as well as different weaving techniques. This is the least contribution I can do to this art. The weaving center with its rich collection and eleven show rooms is located on the main highway from Kusadasi to the world famous ruins of Ephesus. Our aim in this complex is maximum customer satisfaction therefore we put a special emphasis on one to one and after sale relationship. As a result, we have repeated customers who eventually become our friends. This is the way we run the business. Our customers are given the freedom and opportunity to wonder around on their own enjoying the items in display in a friendly, worm but formal atmosphere. They are getting the individual help and advice when needed. We also have educational lectures explaining the material, the dyes, motifs, symbols and the pattern of these carpets starting from the antique ones and bringing it up to date. We do have scheduled university and museum study groups, textile and rug enthusiasts attending these lectures. Stacks of rugs are unrolled and rerolled over and over to let the customers to have a second or third look at them, to digest what they have seen. We carry a wide variety of merchandise which is a unique blend of old and new collection of rugs of usual and unusual sizes, silk carpets, kilims, sumacs, tulus, sleeping rugs, saddle bags, animal trappings, bag faces, tribal utilitarian bags, dowry weavings, camel bags and ornaments, pillow covers, suzanis, beautifiers, tent bands, circumcision robes and many other interesting authentic tribal items. We are ready to give you all the information you require on all of these items. We love what we are doing and enjoy sharing. We also have a store in downtown Kusadasi across from the pier. If you are in this part of the world, you are welcomed to visit any of them and you will be served with pleasure.
